Eight unhurried days for couples who understand that love, like the bush, rewards those who do not rush.
Not every honeymoon needs to cover every park. Some of the most profound travel experiences come from staying somewhere long enough to feel it — from returning to the same watering hole and noticing what has changed, from learning a landscape the way you learn a person: slowly, with attention, over time.
The Slow Safari is for couples who value depth over distance. It concentrates on two destinations — the Serengeti and Zanzibar — and gives you genuine time in each. Four days in the Serengeti is enough to feel like you belong there. Four days in Zanzibar is enough to find your favourite beach bar, your favourite snorkelling spot, your favourite moment of the day.
This is the most affordable of our three honeymoon packages. It is not the least beautiful.
Arrive Arusha — First Evening in Africa Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and takes you to your Arusha lodge. The first African evening has a particular quality — the temperature drops with the sun, the sky turns through shades of colour that do not have adequate names, and the air carries something you cannot identify but will spend the rest of your life trying to find again. Rest tonight. Tomorrow, the Serengeti.
Into the Serengeti — The World at Its Most Beautiful The drive into the Serengeti crosses the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — one of the great scenic roads on earth. The highland forests give way to open savannah, and then the Serengeti opens before you. First game drive in the afternoon. Your first sundowner in the bush. The first night in a tented camp — listening to the sounds of the African night from inside canvas, which is thinner than you expected and makes everything feel wonderfully close.
Serengeti — The Day You Fall in Love with the Plains A full day at your pace. Morning game drive following the wildlife — your guide reads the landscape expertly, finding the lion pride that slept near the lugga, tracking the cheetah that hunted at dawn. Afternoon: back at camp, a light lunch, and the rare pleasure of doing nothing in a beautiful place. Late afternoon game drive as the temperature falls and the light turns golden. The Serengeti in late afternoon light is not something you can photograph. It has to be experienced with both eyes fully open.
Serengeti — Private Dinner Under the Stars Today is yours to structure as you wish — game drive, rest, walk around the camp boundary with your guide, sit by the waterhole and let the wildlife come to you. This evening, your lodge has arranged a private dinner away from the main area: a table set in the bush, lanterns, wine, the stars so close above you that they feel almost loud. Your guide tells you the Swahili names of the constellations. You eat slowly, talking quietly, completely alone in the middle of the largest wildlife ecosystem on earth.
Fly to Zanzibar — The Island Arrives Morning in the Serengeti — a final game drive, a last look at the plains you will spend years describing. Then a flight to Zanzibar via Arusha. The Indian Ocean appears below as you descend. Transfer to your boutique beach hotel. The afternoon is for adjusting to the rhythm of island time — which is slower, warmer, and governed by tides rather than wildlife movements. Dinner on the beach, feet in the sand, the sound of the ocean in the dark.
Stone Town — The Spice Island's Soul A guided morning in Stone Town — carved doors, ancient mosques, the winding alleyways of the old Arab quarter. The history of Zanzibar is the history of the Indian Ocean trade routes, and your guide makes it vivid and alive. Afternoon free to explore: the old port, the market, the rooftop cafes where the Indian Ocean fills every window. Evening: Forodhani Night Market — the most atmospheric open-air dining on the island.
The Reef & the Dhow — Your Last Full Day Morning snorkelling at the coral reef — colours beneath the water that you did not know the ocean contained. Sea turtles if the timing is right. Parrot fish and lion fish and the quiet, suspended world below the surface. Afternoon: a private dhow sailing trip, the crew navigating by wind as the sun lowers over the island. Champagne on the dhow as the light fails. This is the evening you will replay most often in the years ahead.
Departure — Eight Days That Will Last a Lifetime Your final morning. The beach at low tide, the fishermen bringing their catch in, the palm trees moving in the warm wind from the Indian Ocean. Transfer to Zanzibar International Airport. Eight days. The Serengeti and Zanzibar. Two worlds that, together, make a whole. You leave carrying something that no one can take: the private memory of a beginning that was exactly right.
