Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations, boasting over 100 mammal species and an astonishing 606 bird species in a landscape that ranges from open savannah to papyrus swamps and crater lakes. This 3-day express safari packs in a Kazinga Channel boat cruise, big-five game drives, the unique Ishasha sector where lions lounge in fig trees, and a stop at the Equator on the way home.
Drive: approx. 5–6 hours. Early morning pick-up from your Kampala or Entebbe hotel and drive west to Queen Elizabeth National Park (1,978 sq km). On arrival, take an afternoon boat cruise along the famous Kazinga Channel — a 40-km natural channel linking Lake George and Lake Edward. Hippos huff at arm's length, buffaloes wade in the shallows, and a staggering variety of birds line every bank: African Fish Eagles, Open-Billed Storks, Pink-Backed Pelicans, Malachite Kingfishers. Dinner and overnight at Kasenyi Safari Camp (full board).
Morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains searching for lion prides, Uganda Kob (the park's most numerous antelope), hyenas, elephants, and buffalo. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then drive south to the remote Ishasha sector — the only place in East Africa where lions have developed the habit of climbing fig trees, possibly to escape insects or enjoy a better view. Game drive in Ishasha in the afternoon. Overnight at Enjojo Lodge (full board).
One last morning game drive before departing for Kampala / Entebbe. Stop at the Equator on the way — a fun photo opportunity where you can stand in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres at once. Arrive in Kampala in the afternoon.
